Design on a Dime — Drag Doll

Inspired by RuPaul’s Drag Race, this drag doll uses thrifted finds and DIY tricks for a bold, glam look.

Color: reds and pinks.

Key elements

  • Silhouette: add breasts and a tulle underskirt for an hourglass shape.

  • Face: oversized false lashes, painted contour and eyes with watercolor pencils, Pan Pastels, and acrylics; bold red lip.

  • Wigs (2): yarn in pinks. Day look — short sexy swept-forward bob. Night look — high pompadour/mohawk with tight sides using a foam base. Base wig cap made from a recycled t-shirt.

  • Outfit: upcycled thrifted pieces including Warbla, tulle, ribbon, iridescent hearts, and glitter. Glue-and-red glitter gloves.

  • Accessories: small rhinestone hoop earrings; long rhinestone earring used as a brooch/fastener for the ribbon top skirt.

  • Shoes: boots with rhinestone and chain tassels.

Construction tips

  • Start with a 24" male doll. Sculpt breasts with Apoxie Sculpt and attach.

  • Make the bra top from Warbla.

  • Use a magnifier and fine brushes for facial detail. Seal the face with matte Mr. Super Clear and body with a matt sealer.

  • Make wigs, skirts, and bra removable with snaps or tiny Velcro for posing. Hips are fixed with Apoxie Sculpt so the doll can only stand.
